The Micro-enterprise Inventors Program of Oregon (MIPO) and the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network (OSBDC) will host the SBIR/STTR 2012 National Conference: Crack the Code an event that welcomes entrepreneurs, businesses, government agencies, innovators, universities, and community partners to Portland, Oregon.
SBIR/STTR are competitive federal government grant programs that fund small businesses to develop innovative, high-risk technologies with the goal of increasing private sector commercialization into the marketplace.
The topic of game-based learning is gaining considerable attention as more and more young people are playing education-related games outside of school and more and more teachers are leveraging the power of games to engage students in school. Well-designed games can motivate students to actively engage in meaningful and challenging tasks, and through this process to learn content and sharpen critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. And with the advent of modern web-based delivery mechanisms (e.g., handheld personal digital assistants, tablet personal computers) games are now available to users anytime and anywhere. Thus, the momentum for games is likely to continue. This session will describe current and future SBIR funding opportunities for the research and development of commercially viable education technology games.
